Alger voters approve millage

GRAND MARAIS - Voters in Alger County's Burt Township decidedly approved millage increase requests for road maintenance and fire protection Tuesday.

A request to raise millage by 1.5 mills for four years for township fire protection passed 99 to 30.

The levy is expected to generate about $67,516 during the first year.

A 1-mill for four years millage renewal request for road maintenance and improvements was approved by a vote of 96-33.

The millage is estimated to produce $45,675 during the first year.

Alger County Clerk Mary Ann Froberg said 32.4 percent of the township's 401 registered voters cast ballots in Tuesday's election.
