Raymond Edward Arpiainen

TRAVERSE CITY, MI. - Raymond Edward Arpiainen, 79, died on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at home in Traverse City.

Ray was born on December 9, 1933 at home in Greenwood, Ely Township, Michigan, to Flora (Kallasta) and Daniel Arpiainen. Ray attended Diorite and Ishpeming schools, graduating from Ishpeming High School in 1953. He joined the National Guard and served for eight years. He worked at Cohodes Brothers Fruit and Vegetables while finishing high school. Ray worked two years in construction and helped his dad cut pulp. He also worked at the Tracy Mine for 13 years and then went to CCI for 27 1/2 years, retiring in 1995. Ray married Marcy Skewis in February 1956. They have one daughter; Linda Langlois, one granddaughter Jenny Petrie, and one grandson Adam Langlois. His wife Marcy preceded him in death in 1994. He later married Sharon Haglund, who also preceded him in death in 2003.

He is survived by his sisters Helen Tammelin and Evelyn Chynoweth, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Violet Brewster, Elsie Bingham, Martha Pokkela, Eva Arpiainen and his brothers Art, Carl, Norman and Willis.

Ray enjoyed his time on bowling teams and horseshoe leagues through the years; and watching the Detroit Tigers and Green Bay Packers.

Honoring Ray's request, he will be cremated; no public services will be held. Arrangements were entrusted to Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
