NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Northern Michigan University soccer team was unable to lock up a GLIAC tournament spot on Friday, but it held on to the sixth spot following a 1-1 tie in double overtime against Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio.
NMU (4-9-3 overall, 4-4-3 in GLIAC), who is tied for sixth with Northwood with 15 points, closes out the regular season on at noon on Sunday against Malone University in Canton. The top eight teams advance to the league's postseason tournament.
Walsh scored its lone goal 52 seconds in via a header by Kristen Conti that was set up by Jessie Gearhart.
NMU evened the game at 1-1 in the 65th minute via a goal by sophomore Ashley Katers and assist by freshman Paula Hafner.
NMU posted nine shots on goal while Walsh finished with six shots on goal with Wildcats freshman netminder Alexandra Simmons stopping five of those shots.
