Nettie Jean Elzinga

MARQUETTE, MI. - Nettie Jean (Blake) Elzinga, age 84, of Marquette, entered eternal life Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Mill Creek Assisted Living Facility where she resided.

Born in 1928 in Saginaw MI, daughter of Francis and Vera (Kauffman) Blake, Nettie Jean was raised in Saginaw and was a graduate of Saginaw High School, Class of 1946. She received an Associate Degree from Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee.

She later moved to Ann Arbor MI where she met Eugene R. Elzinga, Jr. The couple was married on June 17, 1950. They raised four children living in New Jersey, Paris, and retired to Marquette in 1986. Nettie Jean was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother, and an active volunteer in many organizations, including Marquette General Hospital, North Country Trail, and Habitat for Humanity. She loved and enjoyed her family, traveling, cooking, knitting, and needlepoint.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene; her four children, Eugene Elzinga III of North Carolina, Susan (John) Reynolds of Bowling Green, KY, David (Catherine) Elzinga of White Bear Lake, MN, and Kathy (WL) Scheller of Erie, PA; eight grandchildren, Matthew (Cameo) Elzinga, Michael (Bonnie) Elzinga, Eugene Elzinga IV, Will (Ashley) Scheller, Katherine Reynolds, Elizabeth Scheller, Debbie Scheller, and Dana Reynolds; four great-grandchildren; her sisters, Marge (Milt) Prichard and Elly Krage; and her brother, Francis Blake; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 26, from 11:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon.

Rev. Steve Hulke will officiate and burial will be made in the Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
