We are pleased to join what will no doubt be a chorus of local residents in congratulating Michele Butler for being selected the 2013 recipient of the Evergreen Award.
Organized by the Zonta Club of Marquette, the honor recognizes a local resident who has done outstanding work mentoring women and girls. Additionally, the award recognizes excellence, creativity and initiative in their professions or as volunteers.
A story on page one of today's Mining Journal penned by Staff Writer Jackie Stark has details.
Butler is well known in the region as a successful businesswoman and tireless volunteer. A graduate of Marquette Senior High School, she is a founding member of Art on the Rocks, started the Rotary Pancake Breakfast and Golf Outing, which supports many local organizations, is a volunteer, supporter of the YMCA, local Rotary clubs, the Harborfest, the Bikefest, the Upper Peninsula 200 Sled Dog Championship, the International Food Festival, Special Olympics, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, Marquette Junior Hockey, the Salvation Army and the Jacobetti Home for Veterans - and that's but a partial list of Butler's accomplishments and interests. The complete list wouldn't fit in this space.
Butler is an extraordinarily hard worker who always shows up early, stays late and leads by example in anything she turns her hand to.
We can't imagine a more deserving recipient.
