MARQUETTE - The Marquette Senior High School football team is not only hosting the No. 1 team in the Upper Peninsula at 7 p.m. on Friday, the Redmen are hosting one of eight No. 1-ranked teams in Michigan.

The Maroons (8-0) joined Ishpeming (8-0) this week as a top-ranked team in the statewide Associated Press poll.

Menominee received three first-place votes to Portland's (7-1) two to become the No. 1-ranked team in the AP's Division 5 poll.

Ishpeming, meanwhile, is still the undisputed No. 1 team in the Division 7 AP poll having received all five first place votes every week thus far.

The Maroons continue to lead the Hematites in the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Big Five poll, which remains unchanged this week. MSHS (5-2) is No. 5 in those rankings.

The UPSSA Little Five poll saw L'Anse (7-1) jump over North Central (6-2) and North Dickinson (6-2) from No. 5 to No. 3. The Purple Hornets also received votes in the Division 8 AP poll, where North Dickinson is ranked No. 10.
