William J. ‘Bill’ Brisson, Sr.

MARQUETTE, MI. William J. "Bill" Brisson, Sr., age 85, of Marquette, entered eternal life early Saturday morning, following an apparent heart attack.

Born January 4, 1928 in Munising, a son of William and Anna (Prue) Brisson, Bill was raised in Munising and graduated from the Mather High School, Class of 1946. Bill moved to Marquette in 1950 and for many years was employed by Our Own Bakeries and was known as the local Bunny Bread delivery man. It was during this time that he met his future wife, Jeanette, who was waitressing at Marjomaki's Restaurant in Gwinn. Bill and Jan were married on June 1, 1968 in Marquette and made their home here. Bill was a member of St. Peter Cathedral where he served as an altar server, Eucharistic minister, and was active in the prison outreach ministry, hospital ministry, and St. Vincent DePaul Society. He and his wife, Jan, were also devotees of Eucharistic Adoration at the cathedral. For many years, he also served as a driver for Bishop Emeritus James Garland.

Bill is survived by his children, Jane Brisson of AuTrain, Julie Brennan of Green Bay, WI, Patricia (Jim) Landsperger of Denver, CO, Kathie (Ted) Thill of Marquette, and Elizabeth (David) Vadnais of Marquette; a son, William J. (Barbara) Brisson, Jr of Harvey; a step-daughter, Susan (Mike) Koski of Gwinn; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Ed Brisson of Bloomington, MN; a sister-in-law, Donna Brisson of Munising; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Jan; a son, Kenneth Pelkola; former wife, Betty Lindquist; a brother, Bernie Brisson; a sister, Marian Elya and her husband, Leslie; a sister-in-law, Helen Brisson.

Friends may call at the Bishop's Room, located at St. Peter Cathedral, on Thursday, October 17, from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the cathedral at 11:00 am Thursday morning with the Most Rev. James Garland, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Marquette, as celebrant, and Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber concelebrant. Bill's grandchildren will serve as escorts. A reception will follow in Cathedral Hall. Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
