MARQUETTE - The Marquette Royales Tier III junior hockey team improved to 11-2 over the weekend in their inaugural season with a three-game sweep of the St. Louis Frontenacs in Minnesota Junior Hockey League action at Lakeview Arena in Marquette.

The Royales moved into first place in the Great Lakes Division with wins of 9-0 on Friday, 13-0 on Saturday and 3-1 on Sunday.

The Royales were led Friday by forwards Andrew Jarvis, who notched two goals and two assists, and by Jeff Salzbrunn, who put up a goal and three assists. Andrew Gedert recorded his first shutout of the season in net for the Royales.

The Royales scored eight goals in the second period on Saturday to rout the Frontenacs and were led by Hancock native Trevor Given's three goals. Forward Jeff Salzbrunn notched four assists to go along with a goal and three assists from defenseman Blake Jorenby. Negaunee native Bryce Leaf stopped 25 shots in goal for Marquette.

Robby Gervino, Hunter Heightland and Todd Cooper scored for Marquette on Sunday while goalie Walker Enstad stopped 19 shots.

This weekend the Royales take on the Illiana Blackbirds, who currently sit one point back of Marquette. It will be the team's toughest test yet at Lakeview Arena, according to head coach Mike Stanaway.

"They are a physical team that plays very well in all three zones," Stanaway said. "They have proven to be able to capitalize quickly on mistakes, so puck protection and special teams are going to be key for our team this weekend."
