Prep tennis: Negaunee's Carlson named U.P. Division 1 Player of the Year

KINGSFORD - Allison Carlson of Negaunee High School enjoyed a banner girls tennis season just completed.

Friday, she was honored for her efforts.

The No. 1 singles champion was designated Upper Peninsula Division 1 Player of the Year by division coaches.

Mark Shanks of Kingsford pocketed Coach of the Year laurels.

Carlson was also named to the singles All-U.P. squad, as were teammates Abbi Kill and Angie Ring.

Others selected for singles honors were: Madelyne Connon of Marquette: Hannah Tresedder, Janay Walters and Santina Bianco of Kingsford; Molly Jackson of Menominee; Johanna Snowden of Escanaba; and Gabby Movalson and Lauren Parrett of Gladstone.

Honorable mention picks were: Laura Slavsky of Marquette; Jessica Nutter of Menominee; and Anna Burch of Escanaba.

Doubles players named All-U.P. were: Jessa Johnson and Amanda Washnock of Negaunee; Anna Shanks and Kate Lamy of Kingsford; Brianna Buhl and Taylor Rovin of Marquette; and Olivia Berquist and Shelby Gregoire of Escanaba.

Honorable mention selections were: Kylee Taavola and Hanna Kantola of Negaunee; Ali VanRemortel and Jaelyn Jennings of Kingsford; Emma Hitch and Lindsay Furton of Menominee; Audrey Wilson and Breanna Dault of Escanaba; and Melissa Casey and Paige Schwartz of Gladstone.
