NEGAUNEE - The Negaunee City Council has scheduled a public hearing on the city's proposed 2014 budget during this evening's meeting.

The council meets at 7 p.m. at the negaunee Senior Center.

The proposed budget, which has been available for review at the city manager's office and the Negaunee Public Library, is a "comprehensive plan of city activities for the coming year," according to materials provided by the city.

The Negaunee City Charter requires that the budget be adopted by resolution of the council at its regular meeting in November following a public hearing.

In other action, the council is expected to:

- Consider directing the city manager to enter into a 10-year lease agreement for use of the parking lot behind the Negaunee Senior Center.

- Consider a change order from A. Lindberg & Sons Inc. for the wastewater pipeline project running from Negaunee to Ishpeming, and submit a funding request to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for $277,924.97.

- Consider authorizing the city manager to sign an agreement with Marquette County for the county to pay up to about $7,000 to the city and its employees as independent contractors who will provide services to elderly city residents, as well as those in Negaunee and Richmond townships.

- Consider an agreement with the Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority for Negaunee to collect recyclable materials from its residents and deliver it to the authority's facility at the city's cost. The MCSWMA will process and market the recyclables.
