MARQUETTE, MI. - William Henry "Yellow Dog Bill" Desormier, age 87, of Marquette entered eternal life on Monday, October 7, 2013 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans where he resided since January 2011.
Bill was born July 2, 1926, in Marquette to Henry and Anna (Prosen) Desormier and was a lifelong Marquette resident. He graduated in 1944 from Graveraet High School and was a WWII U.S. Army veteran.
Following his service to his country, Bill was employed by E.J. Longyear Machinery, Cliff Dow, Brebner Machinery and A. Lindberg and Sons, retiring in October 1983.
Bill loved the outdoors and going to camp; in his younger years with his buddies at their Sheridan Hill camp and later at his camp on the Yellow Dog River. He enjoyed feeding and watching the deer and hummingbirds, tending his garden, and chatting with his CB buddies. In his earlier years he enjoyed playing organized softball.
Surviving are his children, Frederick 'Chuck' (Terry) of Neenah, WI, Mark (Sandy) of Green Bay, WI, Annie (Gary) Haglund of Las Vegas, NV, Greg (Kristi) of Henderson, NV, and Christopher (Caroline) of Lillian, AL; one sister, Arlene 'Poppy' Sendek of Marquette and her children, Loren and Cathy; a daughter-in-law, Tina Desormier of Jenkins, MN; also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his son, William 'Billy' Desormier on June 14, 2013; brother-in-law, Don Sendek; and two infant brothers.
A special thank you to Judy Latvala, his 'manager', and her family who helped Bill live independently at home prior to moving to Jacobetti. Thank you also to the Doctors and staff of the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans for the wonderful care they provided Bill.
Friends may call at St. Michael Catholic Church, 401 W. Kaye Ave., Marquette, on Friday, October 11, 2013 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am at the church with the Rev. Michael Chenier officiating.
A reception will follow in the Zyrd Parish Center. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
