Dorothy Lucille Mattson

MARQUETTE, MI. - Dorothy Lucille Mattson, age 82, of Marquette, entered eternal life Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Mill Creek Assisted Living, in the loving care of her family.

Dorothy was born on July 11, 1931, in Marquette, to Norman and Jessie (Herring) Anderson. She was raised in Marquette and was a graduate of Graveraet High School.

Following graduation, she met Arthur John Mattson while working at the Huron Mountain Club, and later the couple married and set about establishing a home and raising three children. When her children were older, she enrolled at Northern Michigan University pursuing a degree in Elementary Education and then went on to earn her Masters Degree in Library Science.

She was employed as a teacher and librarian in the Marquette Public School System, retiring with 25 years of service.

In her spare time, she loved picking blueberries, fishing, knitting and traveling with her husband. Most of all, Dorothy loved spending time with her family and friends at her camp in Big Bay.

She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Marquette.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Arthur; her daughter, Cindy Etten of Marquette; her son, Jim (Sherry) Mattson of Marquette and her daughter, Diane (Mike) Lealos of Kettering, OH; her grandchildren, Danielle (Steve) Collick, Josh Mattson, Jacob Mattson, Cory Mattson, Ashley Mattson, Jordan Lealos and Kristine Lealos; great-grandchildren, Jaden Mattson, Emma Collick and Ellie Collick; her sister, Mary Melvin; her niece, Robin (Greg) Sabo; and nephew, Randy Melvin.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call at the First United Methodist Church on Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday in the church at 11:00 am with Rev.

Alan Hanson officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be made in the Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Children's Library at Peter White Public Library, 217 N. Front Street, Marquette, MI 49855 or the Salvation Army, 1009 W. Baraga Avenue, Marquette, MI 49855.
