MARQUETTE - A Marquette man was found safe Sunday night in the woods of Richmond Township where he had been hunting and got lost tracking a deer.

Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff's Office said the incident was reported at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday and occurred in the woods off North Lake Drive, near Camp 10 Road.

Deputies and Marquette County Search and Rescue responded to a report of missing hunter Timothy Smith, 56, of Marquette. Police said Smith had gotten lost in the woods while tracking a deer.

Smith was able to make contact with Central Dispatch several times with his cell phone, which provided Central Dispatch with global positioning satellite coordinates.

After a search lasting about an hour, Smith was found safe at around 11:30 p.m.

Police said he was found in good health and taken safely back to his wife, who was waiting for him at their camper along the Charley Lakes Trail.
