Ruth E. Ellis

NEGAUNEE, MI. - Ruth E. Ellis, 80, of Bay De Noc Street, Negaunee, died Thursday, September 27, 2013 in South Carolina.

Ruth was born January 23, 1933 in Gwinn to Victor and Siiri (Salmela) Maki, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1950, and was a lifelong Negaunee resident. She earned a Master's Degree in Education from Northern Michigan University and was employed as an elementary school teacher for Negaunee Public Schools for 19 years, retiring in 1993.

Mrs. Ellis was a devout and active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee. She was a member of the Wawanowin Country Club, and enjoyed spending time with her fellow lady golfers and playing in tournaments. She was also a member of P.E.O. In her free time, Ruth liked playing bridge with friends and travelling to visit friends and family members. She was an avid sports fan, and most enjoyed watching her son coach and her grandchildren participate in sports.

Surviving are her daughter, Judy (Jan) Kreminski of Chicago; her son, Dean (Lois) Ellis of Negaunee; 4 grandchildren: Matt and Andrew (Amanda) Kreminski, and Dan and Dave Ellis; a sister, Dorothy Gula of Venice, FL; a brother, Robert (Harriet) Maki of Ishpeming; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert L. 'Pappy' Ellis on May 18, 2007; 4 brothers: Walfred, Arnold, Raymond and Paul Maki; and her sister, Sylvia Tobert.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 12th at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Solberg officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Ellis' grandsons, John Gregory and Jerry Plaisier.Honorary pallbearers are Robert Maki, Don and Gordon Ellis. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 am until the time of services at 2:00 pm at the church Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in Ruth's memory.
