MARQUETTE - A Skandia man was arraigned Friday on a charge of operating a vehicle while impaired, causing serious injury, after allegedly backing his vehicle into a 61-year-old man, who was listed in critical condition Friday evening at Marquette General Hospital.

Charged is Daniel Delaski, 56, who police said was backing out of his driveway to pick up Richard Gelsinger to give him a ride when his vehicle struck Gelsinger.

The Marquette County Sheriff's Office said the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. Thursday in a front yard near a driveway at 167 Ingalls Road in Skandia Township.

Deputies said Delaski was unaware that Gelsinger was walking behind his vehicle and he ran over him with his 2006 Chevrolet Trail Blazer.

Delaski was arraigned Friday in Marquette County District Court and lodged in the Marquette County Jail. Police said his bond was set at 10 percent of $5,000.
