Universal Design Conference
MARQUETTE - The Peter White Public Library invites the public to register for the 2013 Universal Design Conference presented by Thrivent Financial to be held on Oct. 2 and 3.
The Conference will take place at the Peter White Public Library, Marquette.
Featured keynote presenter Cynthia Leibrock, MA, ASID, Hon. IIDA, is an award-winning author, international lecturer, lobbyist, and universal designer with over 30 years of experience. Her keynote talk includes a virtual tour of her home which was featured on the cover of The New York Times.
Other information sessions include topics such as Inclusive Outdoor Recreation: Where and How-to; Comfort & Safety in the Home, Regardless of Age or Circumstance; Design Research on Aging Issues; Universal Design & Businesses: People, Products, Profit; ADA Title II: Design Challenges & Opportunities in State Government; Accessible Landscapes-the Private and Public Realm; Human Centered Design: Future Designers Gallery exhibit and talk; Indoor & Outdoor Assistive Technology Hands-on Demonstrations; and the Living Building Challenge.
The registration fee for the 2 day conference is $90 per person which covers meals, continental breakfasts, lunches and the evening reception.
The one day fee is $50 per person. The full time student fee is $15 per day.

New program at Messiah Church
MARQUETTE -Messiah Lutheran Church is now offering a new midweek program beginning Oct. 2.
The weekly program, called "Wednesday Night Life" will include dinner at 5:30 p.m., worship at 6 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. there will be faith education (including crafts, music, drama for children pre-K to 5th grade, confirmation classes for grades 6-8 and Bible Study and other programs for adults).

Special event for Vietnam Vets
ISHPEMING -"Walking Together" will be the theme of a special time of worship, prayer, renewal and reconciliation for Vietnam Vets and their families to be held at 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 3, at the Ely Township Hall, Ishpeming.
A social time will be held at 1:30 p.m. followed by presentations.
Millie Balzarini, author of "The Lost Road Home," will offer a special presentation of hope to vets and their families based upon experiences during and following the publishing of her book and Vietnam vets and families, especially related to experiences with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
