MARQUETTE, MI. - Rita J. Petersen, age 91, of Marquette, entered eternal life Thursday morning, September 26, 2013, at Mill Creek Assisted Living in the loving, comforting care of her family and the caregivers at Mill Creek.

Rita was born in Marquette on January 6, 1922, a daughter of Edmund and Mary (Racine) Trottier. Following graduation from the Graveraet High School in 1940, Rita moved to Washington, DC where she was employed as a secretary with the US Department of the Navy. She later moved back to Marquette where, throughout her secretarial career, she was employed with the Michigan State Police, Marquette City Hall, and finally with the Marquette County Clerk's Office, from where she retired in 1987. Rita was a member of the former St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and currently a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church. She belonged to the Home Extension Club, loved to knit, and enjoyed ceramics, painting, and craftwork. In retirement, Rita enjoyed daily walks with her friends. Her heart, however, was never far from family and she dearly loved her children and grandchildren.

Rita is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Joe) Meyskens; son, Robert (Sandy) Petersen both of Marquette; three grandchildren, Brian (Fiancee, Melissa) Petersen, Emily (Mike) Gregorich, and Ryan Meyskens: four great-granddaughters, Brittanie, Brianna, Addisyn, and Olivia; her sister, Shirley Nedeau; several nieces and nephews.
