GWINN - Forsyth Township will receive a $7,000 federal grant to help fund replacement of a police vehicle, which is nearing the end of its useful life-span.

U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Lansing, recently announced the Rural Development Grant award for the township.

"We depend on our men and women in uniform to be there in times of crisis, and they depend on us for the support they need to do their jobs," Stabenow said. "This funding will help Forsyth Township (police officers) perform their duties and protect the public."

The grant was made available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Community Facilities Grant Program.

Stabenow is chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, which has jurisdiction over rural development projects.
