MANISTIQUE - Rosalie Anderson and Jayda Johnson led the visiting Negaunee High School girls volleyball team to a four-set, 19-25, 25-13, 28-26, 25-15, victory over Manistique Tuesday.

Anderson recorded 13 kills and three aces for the Miners (4-3 overall, 4-0 Mid-Peninsula Conference). Johnson added five kills and 13 assists.

"We knew coming in Manistique was well-coached (by Amy Nixon)," NHS head coach Annette Gleason said, "so we made sure to work on our defense, serve receive and serving.

"We were coming off a loss last week to Escanaba and knew we had to work harder. It was an all-around team effort."

Katelyn Johnson contributed five kills and BreAnna Leanes six aces for Negaunee, which handed Manistique its first M-PC loss of the season.

The Emeralds got seven kills from Hailey Hoholik, as well as six kills, three aces and five digs from Maggie Morrison.

Leah Cook chipped in five aces and Vanessa McNamara nine assists for Manistique.

The Manistique junior varsity team won, 2-0.

At Stephenson, neither team could put together victories in back-to-back sets in this Great Northern Conference match as the host Eagles prevailed in the shortened fifth set, 25-14, 22-25, 25-19, 17-25, 15-7.

"We played well in stretches, but I was unable to find the recipe to get the girls to sustain that high level of play," said MSHS coach Mike Morgan. "When we do put it all together it is a joy to see."

Morgan Leadbetter led the Redettes with 11 kills, while teammate Courtney McGovern added 29 assists, Tayler Smith seven service aces, and Elle Pearson and Hunter Viitala 16 digs each.
