MARQUETTE- One lane of traffic on U.S. 41 was blocked when an excavator tipped over Friday afternoon.

The Marquette County Sheriff's Office responded to a report that the machine had fallen onto U.S. 41 East. The incident occurred at about 1:35 p.m. near Commerce Drive.

According to police, an operator for Smith Paving misaligned the excavator while attempting to load it on a flatbed trailer, causing it to fall off the flatbed and onto the highway, blocking one lane of eastbound traffic.

The eastbound lane of U.S. 41 from County Road 492 to Commerce Drive was closed for approximately an hour and a half so the excavator could be righted, according to a press release. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Assisting at the scene were Marquette Township Fire and Rescue personnel and the Michigan State Police.
