MURRIETA, CA. - Robert Ralph Dobson, age 87, died September 12, 2013.
He was born September 5, 1926 in Marquette, Michigan, an identical twin son of the late Norman and Geraldine Dobson of Marquette, Michigan and resided in Southern California since 1951. He was married to Florence, his wife of 60 years currently residing in The Colony, Murrieta, Ca.
Bob was a World War II Navy veteran serving in the South Pacific from 1944 until 1946. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1950 working with his father who owned the Upper Peninsula Office Supply Company in Marquette until 1951 when he moved to Southern California.
He worked for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica in the plastics division for one year, the Santa Fe Railway in Public Relations then hired on with Farmers Insurance as a claims adjuster. He married Florence, his wife of 60 years, August 8, 1953. After a short stint as an FBI Agent in Washington, D.C. he returned to Farmers and became a Branch Claims Manager of several offices in Los Angeles County taking early retirement after 35 years to become a consultant to attorneys on "bad faith" insurance cases. He then hired on as a Claims Supervisor for Golden Eagle Insurance of San Diego.
He was an avid golfer, airplane owner and private pilot, a freelance writer and was a volunteer with the California Highway Patrol in Oceanside for five years driving a patrol car. Bob was a member of St. Martha's Catholic Parish in Murrieta.
He is survived by his wife, Florence, and their eight children, Steve (Cindy) of Sun City, Ca., Patrick of Marina Del Rey, Ca., Maureen (Ola) of Longmont, Co., Robert Jr of Torrance, Ca., Colleen of Marina Del Rey, Ca., Diane (James) Cronk of Ventura, Ca., Mike (Amber) of Marina Del Rey, Ca. and Terrence (Mary) of Mission Viejo, Ca., an identical twin brother, Richard of Murrieta, Ca., and two sisters, Mary Alice Volk (deceased) and Marilyn (Dan) Balconi of Marshfield, Ma., 10 grandchildren Danielle, Kevin, LuAnna, Christopher, Mikayla, Kyle, Matthew, Sofia, Lola and Kieran and 1 great grandchild Dylan.
Memorial service Friday September 20, 2013 at St. Mark's Catholic Church at 4pm in Los Angeles, CA.
