MARQUETTE - The United Way of Marquette County has announced this year's campaign co-chairs are Mark Canale, owner of Canale Funeral Homes in Marquette and Gwinn; Christine Pesola, owner of the Landmark Inn; and Dr. Jim Surrell, a doctor with Marquette General Health System.
Canale and Pesola both served as 2012-13 campaign co-chairs, and said they enjoyed it so much they offered to do it for another year.
Surrell is a new face to the campaign drive, but no stranger to donating to United Way, having been a long-time contributor.
The campaign officially kicked off Aug. 24 and campaign materials are being packed up and distributed and mailed now. A campaign team of local volunteers helps with the distribution and signing of letters and encouraging other to give.
The United Way campaign would not be successful without the help of all of the volunteers on the campaign team, the board of directors and the workplace coordinators at each workplace that make sure to encourage giving.
The reason these volunteers devote their time to the campaign is because they have seen the results in the services provided through 28 member agencies that improve lives every day in Marquette County.
As co-chairs, Surrell, Pesola and Canale will visit workplaces and organizations around Marquette County to talk about the United Way and encourage support.
Campaign coordinator Sue Minckler and the co-chairs are available to schedule a visit to any workplace or organization that would like a 15-minute presentation.
