MARQUETTE - Northern Michigan University freshman forward Sami Salminen of Helsinki, Finland will miss the Wildcats' two exhibition games and first five regular season games because he played in seven games against professional hockey teams in Finland, which is a violation of NCAA amateur rules.

Salminen will be eligible for the 'Cats second WCHA game of the season Oct. 26 at Michigan Tech.

Salminen tallied 13 goals and 14 assists in 48 games with the Wichita Falls Wildcats of the NAHL last season. Prior to that, he scored 21 goals and 24 assists in 41 games with Jokerit U20 of the Finland Junior League in 2011-12.

In other NMU hockey roster notes:

- Sophomore forward Robert Lindores has left the program on his own and left the university. Lindores appeared in 13 games last season as a freshmen with his one and only point - an assist - coming Nov. 23, 2012 against Alaska in Marquette.

- Junior forward Joseph Manno of Montreal, Quebec must sit out the 2013-14 season in accordance with NCAA transfer rules. He is enrolled at NMU and can practice with the team.

Manno played one and a half seasons at Northeastern University in Boston, recording four goals and eight assists in 46 games before leaving to play for the USHL champion Dubuque Fighting Saints during the second half of 2012-13. He posted 10 goals and 12 assists in 35 games for Dubuque.

- Gerard Hanson, the younger brother of former NMU forward Gregor Hanson, was finally expected to join the Wildcats this season, however, his arrival has once again been delayed.

Gerard Hanson is enrolled at Northern as a student, but currently not a member of the hockey team at this time. It is a possibility he could join the team for the second half of the season, following the holiday break.

Hanson, 21, last played for Dubuque in the USHL in 2011-12, scoring 11 goals and 16 assists in 53 games.

- NMU's roster currently stands at 31 players after Lindores' departure. That number could be reduced before the season officially begins Oct. 11-12 at the University of Wisconsin. The Wildcats have two exhibition games at the Berry Events Center - 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5 vs. the U.S. National Team Development Program U18 team and 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 6 vs. Laurentian.
