GRAND MARAIS - Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore will hold its annual AuSable Day Saturday, Sept. 21 at the AuSable Lighthouse along the Lake Superior shoreline in Alger County.
The AuSable Day celebration runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include free bus shuttle service to the lighthouse from the lower Hurricane River Campground, tours of the light station and fog signal building and refreshments.
The lighthouse is accessible by walking or riding the shuttle bus from the lower Hurricane River Campground at Pictured Rocks. The campground is situated about 12 miles west of Grand Marais off Alger County Highway 58.

Park staff said visitors wanting to take the ALTRAN shuttle bus should board at the Hurricane River bridge or lower campground parking lots. It is a three-mile round trip walk from the campground to the light station.
The AuSable Light Station was built in 1874. Its location on the AuSable reef of Jacobsville sandstone was an important aid to navigation before maritime electronics became commonplace.
