ISHPEMING, MI. - Richard "Dick" Hautamaki Sr., age 72, of 250 Prospect St., Ishpeming Twp. passed away on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 while in the loving care of his family and the Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Richard was born October 5, 1940 in Ishpeming the son of the late Nicholas and Sophie (Orquist) Hautamaki. He attended the Ishpeming High School, entering the United States Army in June of 1960 where he served until June of 1963. He married Myrtle Snell on September 21, 1963. Dick had worked briefly at a print shop in Escanaba prior to being employed in Ishpeming at Globe Printing for several years. Dick moved on to work for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. at the Empire and Tilden Mines in maintenance until his retirement.
Richard was a member of the Hope Free Evangelical Lutheran Church, and of the American Legion Greenwood Post. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing and hunting, along with snowmobiling in his younger years. He often could be found in his basement tinkering on various projects.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Myrtle Hautamaki of Ishpeming, 3 children Catherine (James) Henderson of Casper, WY, Richard (Dawn) Hautamaki Jr. of Vernal, UT and Connie (Stacy) Harper of Ishpeming, a sister Elsie Alongo of Marquette, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin sons Gregory Scott and Michael Steven Hautamaki, 3 sisters Irene Hautamaki, Helen Ruohomaki and Ruth Stanaway and a brother Eugene Hautamaki.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:00 until 11:00am on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Hope Free Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ishpeming Twp. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Hope Free Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Micah Hjermstad to officiate. Interment will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
