NEWBERRY, MI. - Longtime Newberry resident, Eddie E. Pentland, 67, of Newberry, died Friday evening September 13, 2013 at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie following a lengthy illness.
Born March 24, 1946 in Seney, son of Archie & Lillian (Fritz) Pentland, Eddie, while in his youth, worked on the family farm and was a 1965 graduate of Newberry High School. On June 27, 1970, he married the former Barbara Brown in Newberry and he and his wife moved to Lansing. He attended Lansing Community College pursuing a degree in law enforcement and, while residing in Lansing, was employed in the construction industry and for Brinks Armor Car. Eddie and his wife moved back to Newberry and was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Luce County Road Commission for 19 years until health issues resulted in his retirement in 1996.
Eddie was a member the First Presbyterian Church, the B.P.O.E. #1705 in Newberry where he served in the chairs including chaplain and life member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed target shooting, hunting, fishing, driving, cooking, reading and spending time with his family.
Eddie is preceded in death by his father Archie and siblings Evelyn, Laura and Diane.
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara, of Newberry; mother Lillian Pentland of Newberry; daughters Karen (Don) Duquette of Ishpeming and Deborah (Rocco) Carello of Marquette; siblings Donna Jean of Harbor Springs, Jerry Pentland of Newberry and Bob Fyvie of Fond du Lac, WI.
Friends may call at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry on Wednesday September 18, 2013 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. An Elks Memorial service will be conducted be the members of the Lodge at 3:00 pm and Pastor Nancy Barkat, of the First Presbyterian Church, will follow with words of comfort and inspiration. Interment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery in Newberry.
