MARQUETTE, MI. - Phyllis O. (Jensen) Miller, age 91, a resident of Brookridge Heights Memory Unit, and former Beaver Grove resident, entered eternal life Wednesday evening, September 11, 2013, under the loving care of the Brookridge staff.

Born May 26, 1922 in Sands, Michigan, to Nels and Ora (Comstock) Jensen, Phyllis was raised in Sands. In the late 1930's, she moved to Detroit where she was employed as a housekeeper, nanny, and cook for several wealthy families. During World War II, she was employed with Detroit Diesel for several years.

Following ten years in Detroit, Phyllis returned home to Sands, where she became reacquainted with James W. Miller.

The couple married on December 30, 1950 and established their home in Beaver Grove and began raising a family.

Over the years, the Miller family enjoyed countless adventures, traveling often throughout the United States including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as visiting several other countries, including Panama, Costa Rica, Aruba, and other islands of the Caribbean. Phyllis particularly enjoyed these family adventures, even going snorkeling and white water rafting for the first time while in her 80's.

She loved country music and dancing as well as time spent with friends and family playing 500 and dice. She was a wonderful cook and known by her friends and family as a master baker. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and embroidery work. Phyllis was an active member of the Skandia United Methodist Church for over 50 years, helping out in any way she could.

Phyllis is survived by a daughter, Kathleen (Glen Brown) Miller of Arlington, VA; a son, James M. (Susan) Miller of Oconto Falls, WI; two grandchildren, Gwen Miller of New York, NY and Steven (Stacy) Miller of Grafton, WI; her sisters, Loane Anderson of St. Joseph, MO, Marvel (Wesley) Jacobson of Elk Grove Village, IL, and June Jensen of Marquette; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, you know who you are.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James W. Miller; two sons, Nelson P. and Daniel C. Miller; brothers, Nelson, Beryl, Lyle, Roger and Marvin; and sisters, Eleanor, Donna and Clarice.

Friends may call at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home on Monday, September 16, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. Rev. Kim Spencer will officiate and burial will be made in the Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Skandia United Methodist Church or U.P. Home Health and Hospice. Condolences may be expressed online at www.swansonlundquist.funeralhome.com.
