MARQUETTE - The Northern Michigan University volleyball team rolled through its morning match of the Superior Oasis Wildcat Open, needing only 66 minutes to sweep Bemidji State in three sets, 25-14, 25-11, 25-12.

"Playing at 9 a.m. is always tough and we kind of showed that when we gave up the first four points," NMU head coach Dominic Yoder said. "Overall our team served really aggressive and forced them out of system. We really frustrated them and allowed our defense to work easily."

Senior outside hitter Lina Lopes led the Wildcats with 12 kills while senior outside hitter Kalli Herron had eight. Senior setter Kellisha Harley racked up 30 assists.

Defensively, Lopes and sophomore libero Alex Berger shared the team-high of 10 digs.

Northern totaled 13 service aces with Lopes' five leading the way. Berger and Harley each had three aces as well.

"(Lopes) served them off the court," Yoder said. "That was one of our goals going in was we were going to force them out of system. We really stuck to that game plan."

Up next for the Wildcats is a 7 p.m. match tonight against Minnesota-Crookston.

On Saturday, NMU plays Quincy at 11 a.m. and Lake Superior State at 7 p.m. in the Wildcat Open.
