GWINN, MI. - William R. Niemisto, 89, of Gwinn, died Monday evening, September 9, 2013, at the Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming.
William Rudolph Niemisto (Rudy) had a full and great life. As a young man he served our country in World War II seeing some of the biggest battles in the Pacific Ocean at Iwo Jima. He served as the radio service man on the Navy clipper USS Highlander.
After the war, Rudy lived in Chicago where he met and married Lea D. Niemisto (Kuehn) before moving and making his home back in Gwinn where he was born.
Rudy had a great sense of humor and was faithful to his family, friends, and to his church.
We are thankful for all the years in good heath that he had. His pleasures as a retiree were his children, grandchildren and watching the Bears, Cubs, or Michigan State Spartans on TV.
We will miss him.
Surving ar his wife Lea D. Niemisto of 61 years, daughters Deborah (Nan) and Denise, grandchildren Logan and Dana, and the many nieces, newphews and cousins both in the states and also in Finland.
Funeral Services will be held at the Grace Lutheran Church in Gwinn on Saturday Sept. 14th at 3pm.
