Headline clarified

September 7, 2013
Robert Kulisheck, Marquette , The Mining Journal

To the Journal editor:

On Thursday, The Mining Journal published an op-ed piece that I had written in which I commended President Obama for submitting the issue of Syria to Congress for approval.

However, the main point of my op-ed was to pose a series of questions that need to be addressed before military action in Syria could be justified.

Unfortunately, the headline that The Mining Journal drafted for use with my op-ed stated "Obama on right course on Syria."

This headline did not accurately reflect the position I had taken. A more accurate headline would have been "Questions Congress must address before attacking Syria".

I recognize that it is customary for a newspaper to draft the headlines for guest op-ed pieces, and in most instances I would not complain.

However, the questions posed in my recent op-ed piece are of sufficient and immediate importance that I feel compelled to submit this clarification.
