ISHPEMING - It took a marathon match for Ishpeming to dent the scoreboard as Westwood ran off with a 7-1 victory over the Hematites in a high school girls tennis meet played at the Hematites' courts on Thursday afternoon.

While the Patriots won every one of their matches in straight sets, Ishpeming's Jaime Olson had to outlast Westwood's Megan Chapman at No. 2 singles, 7-6 (7-1), 4-6, 11-9, with the final set a pro-style tiebreaker.

"That match lasted about 2 1/4 hours," said IHS coach Erl Langness, whose team slipped to 3-6. "This is the third time Jaime has been down a considerable amount in the tiebreak and came back and won."

Olson trailed 7-4 in the third set before mounting her comeback on Thursday.

No. 1 singles player Caitlin Hewitt had the closest match of the Westwood players who won, taking a 6-4, 7-5 win over the Hematites' Gabby Croley.

"Caitlin battled hard today and won a very tight match," Pats coach Chris Jackson said. "We played very good in every position of our lineup."
