MARQUETTE - The sixth annual River Valley Bank Walt Kyle Mile will be joined by The Dash 5K run on Saturday starting at the Berry Events Center.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the run and walk starting at 9 a.m.
Cost of the Walt Kyle Mile is $10 per walker or $20 for registration and a T-shirt. Registration for the 5K run is $15 or $25 with a T-shirt included.
Proceeds from the Walt Kyle Mile will go to support cancer patients staying at Beacon House during their chemotherapy and radiation treatments. The walk begins at the BEC and heads up Third Street, across to the lake at Spring Street, up the shore of Lake Superior on the bike path and back to the Berry.
The Northern Michigan University hockey team, as well as other Wildcats athletics teams, are expected to attend.
Proceeds from the 5K run will benefit The Dash memorial fund, which is in memory of Kristin O'Halloran, who like Kyle, also battled cancer numerous times.
"My daughter, Kristin, lost her battle with this dreaded disease," Marsha O'Halloran said. "Much like Walt, she battled the disease more than once. Unfortunately she didn't win, but she, like Walt, inspired so many people."
Subway is providing sandwiches for participants at the conclusion of the walk and run.
