Camp is thankful

September 4, 2013
Carla Champagne , The Mining Journal

To the Journal editor:

The board of Camp New Day UP would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the individuals, churches, organizations, and businesses that helped to make this year's camp a success. Camp New Day UP is a free one-week camp for children who have been impacted by the incarceration of a loved one. Our goal is to provide these children with a week of fun at camp including swimming, arts and crafts, canoeing, hiking, and campfires.

Many individuals and churches across the Upper Peninsula have made monetary contributions to our camp. They are too many to list here, but we gratefully thank you.

Several local businesses contributed merchandise, including food. We would like to thank Papa Murphy's Pizza, Jilbert's Dairy, Marquette Food Coop and Target.

Area service organizations that helped us out financially include Superiorland Kiwanis, Greater Ishpeming Pioneer Kiwanis, Escanaba Noon Kiwanis, Ishpeming/Negaunee Rotary, Marquette Breakfast Rotary, and the Rotary Club of Marquette.

Thank you also to the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and a huge thank you to the M. E. Davenport Foundation.

Camp New Day UP is funded entirely by contributions. Without your help there would be no Camp New Day UP.

Respectfully,

Carla Champagne
