City lifeguards done for 2013

September 3, 2013
The Mining Journal

MARQUETTE - Beginning today, swimming beaches in the city of Marquette will no longer be staffed with lifeguards. The city will, however, maintain its beach flag warning system through the month of September.

Beach visitors are asked to take caution and pay attention to the warning flags, which are intended to warn of hazardous swimming conditions.

Green flags denote fairly safe conditions, yellow denotes a moderate hazard and red signals a dangerous and closed beach.

The current status of the flags on the city's five beaches can be found online at www.mqtcty.org/Beachfront/advisories.html.

The beach area near Picnic Rocks is a permanently posted "no swimming" area.
