MUNISING - Quarterback Andrew Peterson scored the game's lone touchdown with less than 10 minutes to go to lead West Iron County to a 7-0 victory at Munising in high school football action Friday night.

The Wykons intercepted Mustang junior quarterback Austin Kelto on a last-gasp drive near midfield with time winding down in both team's opening game of the season.

Kelto was intercepted three times as he completed 6 of 16 passes for 41 yards. Senior teammate Cody Hayes rushed 19 times for 87 yards, actually surpassing his team's total of 80 yards on the ground as Munising managed just 121 total yards.

"This was two strong defensive teams battling it out," MHS coach Jeff Seaberg said of a game played in perfect weather. "We struggled to move the ball, but we were able to hold them for the most part.

"I thought it would be the other way around - we'd be able to generate some offense and I worried about our defense."

Seaberg said his team never really threatened the end zone, while WIC had one other decent drive in the first half where a pass to the goal line ended up just out of the end zone.
