MANISTIQUE - A 35-year-old Manistique man is behind bars after police say he attacked another man, sending him to the hospital with "significant injuries."
Gordon Daniel Baker II, 35, was arraigned in 93rd District Court Wednesday on one charge of assault with intent to murder, a felony with life imprisonment, one count of first-degree home invasion and one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, both of which are 10-year felonies.
Baker is also being charged as an habitual offender, fourth offense.
He is currently lodged in Schoolcraft County Jail with no bond.
According to a press release issued by Manistique Public Safety, officers received a call at 6:19 a.m. Tuesday of an assault in progress at 226 Range Street in Manistique.
Upon arriving at the scene, police said officers made contact with Michael Henry Chapek, 51, who lived at that address. Police said Chapek had suffered significant injuries which required immediate medical attention. He was immediately transported by officers to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Baker is scheduled to appear in district court at 1:45 p.m. Sept. 9 for a preliminary examination.
