NEWBERRY - Prep cross-country runners Brett Hannah of Munising and Holly Blowers of Manistique took top honors Saturday at the Tiffany Thorp Invitational held in Newberry.
Hannah covered the course in 18:45 to capture the boys' crown over runner-up and Munising teammate Izaak Mahoski (19:28). Andrew Sjogren of St. Ignace placed third (19:32), while Marquette North Star Academy's John Henry Kibit (20:15) and Michael Brown (20:17) followed.
Munising copped the team championship with 34 points. Newberry came in second with 65, North Star Academy third with 66, St. Ignace fourth with 69 and Rudyard fifth with 135.
Blowers won the girls' race with a 22:25 clocking. She was followed by Bridget Stoetzer of Newberry (23:55); Rosy Shimkovitz of St. Ignace (23:59), Anna Baij of Munising (24:13) and Olivia Holmberg of Manistique (24:23). Newberry took the team title with 45 points to runner-up St. Ignace's 60. Munising (65), Rudyard (87) and Manistique (90) went 3-4-5.
