Police seek help in theft case

MARQUETTE - The Marquette County Sheriff's Office is asking the public's help in identifying anyone who may have witnessed a recent purse theft from a shopping cart in the Walmart parking lot in Marquette Township.

Police said the incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. last Wednesday. Deputies said the purse contained a substantial amount of cash and was inadvertently left in a shopping cart at the Walmart parking lot.

Police said a lighter colored Chevrolet Impala missing a front left wheel cover parked next to the cart where the purse was left, and was later captured on video surveillance at the Target store where it stopped for a few seconds next to a shopping cart then left the parking lot, police said.

The purse was later found in that shopping cart by a Target employee in the parking lot and the cash was missing.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information on the whereabouts of the vehicle is asked to call the sheriff's office at 225-8434 or the sheriff's tip line at 225-8441.
