RHINELANDER, Wis. - The Marquette Senior High School boys soccer team received two goals and an assist from Andrew Banitt in a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Stevens Point Area High School (Wis.) in Rhinelander, Wis. on Friday to open the 2013 season.
Head coach Matt Tebo not only credited Banitt for a great game, but the anchor of his young defense, Collin Shinners.
"It's great to start off the season with a win," Tebo said. "The kids played great."
Banitt gave MSHS a 1-0 lead two minutes into the game with an assist from Ben Wright, but SPASH scored twice to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Banitt tied the game four minutes into the second half with an assist from Cole Rieboldt and then assisted Hunter Shaneberger on the game-winner 21 minutes into the second half.
Tony Lackey made seven saves for MSHS, which plays Ashland, Wis. at 10:30 a.m. today and the host team, Rhinelander, at 4:30 p.m.
