Mary Jane Snell

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Mary Jane Snell, age 73, of 222 S. Fifth Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Thursday evening, August 22, 2013, at Marquette General Hospital.

Born August 7, 1940, in Newberry, a daughter of Robert A. and Gurnie M. (Morrison) Ward, Mary was raised in Marquette and was a 1958 graduate of the Graveraet High School. On January 25, 1958, she married Joseph John Snell and the couple moved to Ishpeming to establish their home and raise a family. Mary later served as a volunteer in the Parent Club of the Blue Notes Drum and Bugle Corps for five years. While residing in Ishpeming, Mary was employed with the City of Ishpeming Police Department as a metermaid and dispatcher from 1972 to 1980. She later relocated to Heber Springs, Arkansas, where she worked for ten years as a aerodynamics sealer with the Rohr Aerospace Corporation, until that facility closed in 1999. She then transferred to the Goodrich Corporation in Foley, Alabama, working there for three years before retiring in 2001. Mary then moved back to the Marquette area.

Survivors include her daughter, Vicki Lynn (Fred Binkley) Snell of Negaunee Township; son, Michael John Snell of Gwinn; her grandchildren, Kimberly (Ben) Anderson and Cody (fiancee Logan) Snell; a great-grandson, Devick Anderson; a sister, Wanda Just of Ishpeming; brother-in-law, Gilbert Lukkonen of Gwinn; special nieces, Deborah Skinner and Christine Crist both of Niceville, Fla., Kelly LaBlanc of Portland, Ore., and Nancy Lukkonen of Ironwood; and many other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by sisters, infants Lois and Delta Ward, Marilyn McGowan. Darlene Sulak, and Phyllis Lukkonen; brothers, infant Keith, Robert, Leonard, John, and Edward Ward; a niece, Sharon McMullan; and former husband, John Snell.

Honoring Mary's request, private family services will be held. Inurnment will be made at the Park Cemetery.
