GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Craig Smith Hebein, age 36, of Kentwood, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, August 12, 2013.
Craig was born May 26, 1977, in Marquette to Michael and Susan (Smith) Hebein of Ishpeming. He graduated from Westwood High School, class of 1995.
Craig graduated from the Harley-Davidson division of Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, and became an expert mechanic after further education at Harley headquarters in Milwaukee. He worked at Harley dealerships in Marquette, Ann Arbor, Detroit, and Elkhart, Indiana before settling in at Grand Rapids Harley Davidson in Hudsonville, Michigan. Craig worked hard and took pride in excelling at his job.
Craig was interesting, interested, creative, and could always tap into his inner child. He felt lucky to have grown up where he could enjoy "messing around" outdoors with his brother and sister, cousins, and friends. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and countless other activities that living in the Upper Peninsula made possible for him. Craig loved his family and friends, music, and learning more about the many things that intrigued him. Craig was strong-willed and was always the captain of his own ship. His family feels lost without him.
Craig is survived by his father and mother Michael and Susan of Ishpeming, his brother Peter Hebein of Seattle, WA, his sister Alison (Billy) Rosseau and niece Olletta of Anchorage, AK, his grandfather Charles Smith and grandmother Margaret Hebein both of Ishpeming, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother Lois Smith and his grandfather Roland "Jerry" Hebein.
A gathering for Craig's family and friends will be held on Friday August 23, 2013 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming where at 6:00 p.m. will be a time to share your memories with Craig's family.
