ISHPEMING - The NICE school board will meet tonight to discuss new personnel hires, to make a recommendation for accepting a bid on the Aspen Ridge Drainage Project and consider a resolution to establish a scholarship fund for college-bound students.
The school board is looking to hire an early childhood special education teacher and a kindergarten teacher, said NICE interim superintendent Bryan DeAugustine. The board has already approved hires for an elementary principal, a middle school principal, who was an internal hire, as well as a teacher for elementary music, high school business, Young Fives and second grade.
The school board will also be taking the recommendation from Integrated Design Incorporated for accepting a bid to work on the Aspen Ridge locker rooms.
"We're looking to get that project underway, so we'll take IDI's recommendation and go forward with it," said DeAugustine. "We've had some water problems there in the spring when the snow melts. It hasn't been horrible, but it's got us a little nervous. It's making the concrete block pretty wet, and we do get some water in the locker rooms that we have to drain through the shower drains. DeAugustine said the work is not expected to be disruptive to students, as the work will be done away from classrooms.
The school board is also expected to make a resolution to establish the Katherine Kososki scholarship fund. DeAugustine said he is very excited about the fund, the amount of which will not be disclosed.
The meeting will be held tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Westwood High School library.
