Volunteer opportunities

This column is a sample of volunteer opportunities available in Marquette County. Persons 55 or older can learn about these and other possibilities in their community by contacting Amy Mattson at the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program at 485-1782. Others should contact the agencies directly. Additional opportunities are posted online at UPvolunteer.org.

Brookridge Heights Assisted living and Memory care seeks volunteers to help entertain and enrich the lives of residents. Activities may include: bingo, music, dancing, arts and crafts, games, etc. Activities usually run for roughly one hour. Call Erica Campbell at 225-4488 or email activities@ brookridge-heights.com.

Volunteers are needed to help serve the AMCAB Senior lunch at the Ishpeming Senior Center. Call 228-6522.

The Marquette County Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Harvey seeks volunteers to help with customer service and answering phones. Volunteers are also needed to help with home construction in Negaunee and Ishpeming. Call 228-3578, email Jane@mqthabitat.org or visit www.mqthabitat.org. Experience is not necessary.

The D. J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans seeks volunteers to provide entertainment to veterans on weekends or possibly some evenings. Music, storytelling, slide presentations, etc., are acceptable. Looking to fill open dates on an ongoing or occasional basis at 1:30 p.m. Saturdays or Sundays for approximately one hour. Evenings are negotiable. Also sought are volunteers to assist with its the home's haberdashery from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays to sort clothing donations and unclaimed laundry. Duties include sorting, folding and contact with the veterans. Call 226-3576, ext. 396.
