Joanne Marie Boxer

MARQUETTE, MI. - Joanne M. Boxer, age 85, a resident of Brookridge Heights Assisted Living Facility, entered eternal life Friday morning, August 16, 2013, surrounded by the comfort and love of her family.

Joanne was born December 8, 1927 in Marquette, a daughter of Earl and Genevieve (Quinn) Hansen, and was a lifelong resident of Marquette.

After graduating from Graveraet High School in 1945, she worked at various local businesses. On August 16, 1947, she married Jack Boxer and together the couple established a home and raised three children. During this time, Joanne worked outside of the home for the City of Marquette, Lutey's Flower Shop and, finally, as a secretary for the Marquette Area Public Schools.

She was well known for her outgoing personality and pleasant smile. Joanne actively volunteered with the Marquette County Commission on Aging, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and her other interests included knitting, crocheting and needlepoint. She also enjoyed gardening and had a tremendous love of flowers.

Joanne's life revolved around her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren meant everything to her, and she relished following their activities and accomplishments.

Survivors include her two daughters, Sandra (Boris) Martysz and Jackie Boxer, her son, Jim Boxer, all of Marquette; four grandchildren, Boris (Coreen) Martysz Jr. of Marquette, Ivan (Susan) Martysz of Marquette, Sarah (Don) Weber of Milwaukee and Kimber (Doug Anderson) Hansen of Marquette; seven great-grandchildren, Calla, Elli, Ethan, Andrew, and Austin Martysz, Jack and Sam Weber; special nieces, Trudy (Jerry) Wille of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and Kelly (Guy) Boomgarden Madison, Wisconsin; and nephews, Ted (Marcia) Hansen of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and Roy Lane of Durand, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; brothers Fred and Neil; and grandson, Shawn Dollar.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home on Monday, August 19, from 2:00 pm until the time of service at 4:00 pm. Rev. Steve Hulke will officiate and burial will be made in the Park Cemetery.

The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Brookridge Heights and Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice for the wonderful care given to Joanne.
