MARQUETTE?- After six years of planning, 67-year-old cyclist and animal lover Floyd Lampart hit the road April 4 from his home in Lake Clear, N.Y., to begin a six-month, 12,000-mile ride around the perimeter of the continental United States.
He's taking on the challenge hoping to raise more than $100,000 to benefit a new veterinary clinic at Best Friends Animal Society's animal sanctuary in Kanab, Utah.
Some 20 weeks into his ride, Lampart was on pace to arrive in Michigamme Wednesday. Today, Lampart plans to continue eastward, riding through Marquette and Forest Lake before ending his ride for the night in Munising.
Friday he will continue east on M-28 heading toward Strongs. He has covered nearly 10,000 miles, averaging 60-70 miles per day.
