MARQUETTE-Marquette Fire Fighters Local No. 643 raised $9,855 during the Muscular Dystrophy Association's annual Fill-the-Boot campaign. The firefighters took off their boots to collect funds July 26 -27.
"The MDA and Marquette Fire Fighters are overwhelmed and grateful for the generous community we live in," Executive Director Dawn Ver Haagh said. "On behalf of the MDA and clients served, we can't say thank you enough to the fire fighters who are helping the battle against muscular dystrophy."
All of the money raised will help benefit local MDA clients and services. For example, $30 funds a flu shot, $85 funds one minute of MDA research and $800 sends one child to MDA Summer Camp.
MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services and far-reaching professional and public health education.
