MENOMINEE - The Tri-City Northstars baseball team can't quite get over the hump known as the Marinette Redbirds in the Wishigan League.
For the third consecutive year, the Negaunee-based adult-level team reached the championship game of the league's playoff tournament. But also for the third time in a row, the Wisconsin team came away the winners.
On Sunday, Marinette outlasted Tri-City 6-4 in a game played in Menominee. The winners scored four times, aided by several errors, in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie off Northstars pitchers Preston Hutchens and Steve Hintsala.
Tri-City rallied but could only get two runs back in the top of the seventh despite having just nine players available.
The Northstars led off with three straight singles by Scott Jensen, Adam Gannon and James Larsen II to load the bases, getting runs home from RBIs by Hintsala and Anthony Kreis.
Tri-City completes its season at 10-7 overall and 8-6 in Wishigan League play.
Marinette scored first, plating two runs in the fourth off Northstars starting pitcher Adam Gannon, before the northern visitors tied it in the fifth against Redbirds starter Cody Woods. Jensen scored on a Larsen sacrifice fly, while Gannon came home on a two-out double by Hintsala.
