NEGAUNEE, MI. - Helen A. Hill, 89, of Rail St., Negaunee, died at 10:30 pm on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Eastwood Nursing Center where she had resided since July 5, 2013.
Helen was born March 11, 1924 in Negaunee Township to Andrew and Hilda (Lahti) Hemmila, attended the Eagle Mills School, and was a lifelong resident. She worked as a seamstress for the H.W. Gossard Company for 20 years, retiring in 1976 and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Hill was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee where she volunteered with the church newsletter for many years. She was also a member of the Negaunee Eagles Auxiliary, the Negaunee Lady Elks and volunteered at the Negaunee Senior Center. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing bingo.
Surviving are 2 sons: Albert "Butch" (Dorothy) Hill of Negaunee, Danny (Heidi) Hill of Ishpeming, her twin sister, Hilda Rivers of Ishpeming, a brother, Robert Hemmila of Negaunee, 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 14 great great grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law: Marilyn Hemmila of Palmer, Betty Hemmila of Negaunee, Shirley Hemmila of Negaunee Township, numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard Hill in 1987, her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Donald Gignac, 2 grandchildren, Lisa Knoll and William Garbett, 5 brothers: Arvid, Albert, William, John, and Arthur Hemmila.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 13th at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Marcia Solberg officiating.
Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at noon at the church on Tuesday, and also at a reception in the fellowship hall following the service.
