Urban sprawling

August 10, 2013
Verna Thompson, Marquette , The Mining Journal

To the Journal editor:

As I travel Washington Street several times a week, I cannot believe how big the building is that replaces the old bakery. The design will be beautiful, but it's a building better suited to Chicago or New York or even Founder's Landing, not Washington Street.

What is going to be very interesting is, even though underground parking is planned, when those offices and bank close at the end of the day and all those cars begin to exit onto West Washington Street the traffic congestion is going to be enormous.

Just getting out of McDonald's to go west is a real trick. Multiply that by all the cars coming onto a major thorough fare at the same time boggles the mind.
