MARQUETTE - Hundreds of people from all over the country flocked to Lakeview Arena Friday evening to register for the 14th annual Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic.
It is expected there will be about 2,400 participants again this year, and it looks like it will be a great weekend for the races, race director Scott Tuma said. The weather is forecast to be clear and on the cool side, he said.
"With the rain we had this week the course is really packed well, so there should be little dust," Tuma said. "It's going to be a fast race this year."

The Ore to Shore consists of six races ranging in length from 50 yards to 48 miles. According to Tuma, the epic has experienced steady growth throughout the years. The first year there were 677 participants and last year's roughly 2,400 participants was a record, he said.
"It's been fun to see some of the kids work their way up through the races," Tuma said. "It's also been great to see families come back year after year."
This year to celebrate the families that race together, Re/MAX is sponsoring the Fastest Family challenge. A family with three or more members living in the same household with the fastest average time from each the 48-mile Hard Rock and 28-mile Soft Rock wins a prize.
Tuma said the course is in great shape and only a few minor changes were made this year due to construction. Those traveling in the area today are asked to be aware of the bikers and road crossings.
"Our road crossings are well mark," Tuma said. "Just be patent while the bikers are passing through and be safe."
The main races, the Soft Rock and Hard Rock, begin in Negaunee at 9 and 9:45 a.m., respectfully. The first finishers are expected to begin arriving at lakeview Arena in Marquette a little before noon.
